The mission of the Writers With Mental Illness Book Club is to:
- Support authors with mental illness by buying their books and encouraging reviews
- Provide a platform for discussion of these books and support each other as writers
So, how does the book club work?
We’ll be discussing the book in the closed Facebook group, but I’m hoping to migrate permanently to Goodreads and escape the slimy tentacles of Facebook. The book club is open to anyone, but if you sign up to receive the books on Patreon, you’ll receive the book of the month before it is announced and have access to exclusive book service emails.
There are 2 ways to sign up:
- For $14.99 a month, you’ll receive one surprise book in the mail every month that is written by an author with mental illness. You’ll also get an exclusive email every month from the featured author.
This tier is fun because you get a physical copy of the book, and getting packages is always fun! We’ll be discussing the book in the closed Facebook group the following month.
- For $8.99 a month, you’ll receive one surprise Ebook every month that is written by an author with mental illness. You’ll also get an exclusive email every month from the featured author.
This tier is cool because if you already happen to have the surprise book, you can redeem the book for credit and buy another book of your choice! We’ll be discussing the book in the closed Facebook group the following month.
Past Books of The Month
December 2018: Dove Keeper
February 2019: An Unquiet Mind
March 2019: Birth of a New Brain
April 2019: Letters To My Lover From Behind Asylum Walls
May 2019: Firefly Magic: Heart-Powered Marketing For Highly Sensitive Writers
A lot of writers with mental illness are also highly sensitive. Figuring out how to get our writing out into the world without jeopardizing our integrity (and therefore, our mental health) can be hard. In Firefly Magic, Sapala walks us through the process of how to sell our work without “selling out.”
